The cord enables an analog QD headset to be used with a computer via the 3.5mm TRRS jack. In order to comply with operational security requirements that headsets are unable to pick up surrounding noise when the microphone is not being spoken into, when a QD headset is connected, its microphone is only active as long as the inline button in the cord is held down. When the button is released, the microphone is muted.
